Daniel Schirm, a resident of Solingen, is running as the Free Democratic Party (FDP) candidate for the upcoming Bundestag elections in constituency 102. Schirm is a law student in Bonn and currently works as a student trainee in a Cologne law firm.
In addition to his professional commitments, Schirm is actively involved in local politics, having been a part of Solingen's political scene for seven years. He has served as the deputy chairman of the FDP Solingen and the school policy spokesman of the FDP faction.
Schirm's political journey began in the youth forums and events of the Remscheid/Solingen area, where he gained prominence as the chairman of the Young Liberals Solingen and a member of the state executive of the FDP youth organization for two years.
Recently, the Bergisch FDP district associations of Solingen, Wuppertal, and Remscheid jointly nominated Schirm, a 25-year-old promising politician, as their candidate for the Bundestag.
Schirm believes that the state should not finance the economy but rather the economy should finance the state. He sees Germany in an economic crisis and does not believe that redistribution is the right way to address it.
On immigration, Schirm calls for the enforcement of democratically agreed rules, supporting skilled workers and economic needs. He is critical of the consequences of irregular migration and failed integration, claiming they threaten internal security.
Regarding defense spending, Schirm has successfully advocated for an increase in defense spending to 3% of GDP at the federal congress of the Young Liberals. He is critical of the current federal chancellor's half-hearted Zeitenwende and advocates for a Zeitenwende that would make Germany defensible.
Schirm was elected as the FDP candidate with 80.6% of the votes at their district election assembly. In his acceptance speech, he thanked the members for the trust placed in him and rallied them for an intense election campaign. He promises to offer voters a proposal that boldly addresses the major issues of our time.
