Cyberchase Interactive Session under Our Innovative Endeavor
On April 7, 2021, a captivating Facebook LIVE event was hosted by our programme in collaboration with WNET, America's flagship PBS station, and PBS's Cyberchase. The event, themed "Explore the Outdoors," showcased adaptations of our initiative's activities from Cyberchase's Green It Up Activity Cards, focusing on inspiring children and families to take inspiration from nature.
The 20-minute WorkshopLIVE event can be viewed and shared directly at https://www.facebook.com/cyberchase/videos/784452188857225. The event featured a 3-minute video clip recorded by the late Virginia our initiative State Coordinator, Page Hutchinson, demonstrating ways to observe and study a specific tree throughout the year. This video clip, intended to help hone students' observational skills and understanding of trees, was a poignant tribute to Page's dedication to environmental education.
The event also presented a 20-minute WorkshopLIVE video, demonstrating how children and families can create a My Tree Journal using new Journal pages from our initiative's Adopt a Tree activity in the Explore Your Environment: K-8 Activity Guide. This guide, associated with Project Learning Tree (PLT), an educational program that integrates nature and environmental studies into teaching for kindergarten through 8th grade students, includes 50 field-tested, hands-on lessons and activities designed to engage students with topics such as forests, wildlife, and other natural environments.
The guide promotes multidisciplinary learning by integrating investigations of nature with science, math, and other subjects, fostering critical thinking skills and encouraging students to explore their environment actively. Aligned with educational standards such as the 2025 Science TEKS, the guide aims to guide students on how to think, not just what to think, about environmental and sustainability topics.
The event was a collaboration between our programme, WNET, and PBS's Cyberchase. Cyberchase, a STEM-focused animated show encouraging kids to learn about and appreciate math and technology, also contributed to the event with its supporting web games and activities designed to support math education and reflect national curriculum standards.
Janice Fuld, Outreach Producer for WNET, New York Public Media, expressed appreciation for Jaclyn as a special guest star and her clear and engaging demonstration style during the event. Jackie Stallard, another individual involved in the event, was also present but no specific role or action was mentioned in the provided text.
The event served as a resource for educators to provide engaging, hands-on environmental education through a variety of practical lessons that connect children with nature and promote sustainable practices. The Explore Your Environment: K-8 Activity Guide, with its comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, is a valuable tool for educators looking to integrate nature and environmental studies into their teaching.
The state coordinator, Page Hutchinson, delivered a moving 3-minute video clip during the online-education event, which showcases the "Explore the Outdoors" initiative. This video, part of the workshops from the Adopt a Tree activity in the education-and-self-development resource, Project Learning Tree (PLT), encourages learning and observation skills about trees.
