Construction and Trial of Fresh Roads in Primary Schools of Bergerhausen and Katernberg

In the city of Bergerhausen, a new initiative aimed at making school routes safer and more sustainable is underway. The Be-MoVe project, funded through the "MobilityCity 2025" funding program of the Federal Ministry of Research (BMFTR), is a real-life lab project for pedestrian and cycling traffic.

The goal of the Be-MoVe project is to encourage more children to walk, bike, or scooter to school, while promoting health, self-confidence, and sustainability. The project is carried out in collaboration with schools and kindergartens, enabling them to identify local hazards, develop solutions, and make routes safer.

As part of the project, temporary school streets will be tested in Bergerhausen and Katernberg. In Elbestraße, near the Grundschule Am Krausen Baumchen, and Buchelsloh at the Kantschule, traffic restrictions will be implemented for an initial period of one year, with an evaluation after the first six months.

On-site visits revealed that action was needed to address the critical traffic situation in Buchelsloh street, specifically at the Kantschule. The parents' association of Kantschule wrote a letter in October 2024 highlighting this issue.

Existing parent pick-up/drop-off points in Bergerhausen will continue to be used. The trial will run from 7:30 to 8:30 am weekdays, and residents can still drive through. In Bergerhausen, Siegstraße will become a one-way street as part of the trial.

More information about the Be-MoVe project and school route checks can be found at www.our website/Be-Move. Detailed information about the school street establishment can be found in document 1114/2025/6.

The school route checks are conducted by the planning office bueffee GbR from Wuppertal, initiated by the Be-MoVe project of the Green Capital Agency (GHA) of our city portal. The city of Emmen initiated the Be-MoVe project, and more information can be found on the city portal website.

The Be-MoVe project is a significant step towards creating a safer and more sustainable environment for children commuting to school in Bergerhausen. By making school routes safer, the project aims to encourage more children to walk, bike, or scooter to school, promoting a healthier lifestyle and reducing carbon emissions.
