In an effort to combat the growing threat of scams and protect the community, Rhön-Rennsteig-Sparkasse and the local police are hosting an information and awareness event on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 09:00. The event will take place at the Advisory Center Steinweg, Rhön-Rennsteig-Sparkasse, Suhl.

The aim of the event is to heighten awareness about scams such as the "grandparent scam" and impersonation of fake police officers. These scams, while often associated with the elderly, pose a serious threat to individuals of all ages, as perpetrators are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

During the event, the police's prevention officer will provide on-site information about current scam methods, along with practical tips on how to avoid falling victim. Specific behavioural tips will be provided, as well as possible courses of action that can be taken.

The event is open to both customers and the general public. Common strategies and tips to avoid falling for scams include educating oneself and loved ones about common tactics, verifying identity before acting, never sending money or personal information immediately, using call screening and blocking technology, encouraging open communication, limiting remote access to devices, monitoring financial activity, being wary of emotional pressure, using official channels for alerts and support, reporting suspected scams promptly, and more.

Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about scams and the steps they can take to protect themselves and their loved ones. The prevention officer will also be available for questions during the event.

By working together, the Rhön-Rennsteig-Sparkasse and the police aim to create a safer community for everyone. Early reporting of scams helps reduce their success and assists law enforcement and financial institutions in preventing further fraud. So, mark your calendars for August 1, 2025, and join the fight against scams in Suhl.
