Commencement of Friedrich-Ebert Gymnasium Expansion: Groundbreaking marks commencement of construction venture

The Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium in Mühlheim is currently undergoing a significant expansion, aiming to meet all contemporary requirements for a modern school building. This project, which is estimated to cost approximately 9.6 million euros, is set to revolutionise the school's facilities.

The expansion will replace an existing container facility that has been in use since the 2022/23 school year. The new building, standing three stories high, will consist of a combination of wood and solid construction, ensuring a sustainable and eco-friendly design.

The new structure will house ancillary facilities such as toilets, technical rooms, and traffic areas, as well as a large classroom of approximately 90 square meters. Additionally, a new support point for teaching staff will be established, aiming to enhance the learning environment for both students and teachers.

Barrier-free access will be improved with the addition of a new elevator, ensuring that the school is accessible to all. Fire protection will be optimised for internal access areas on the upper floors, which will be used as school learning zones.

Eight new classrooms will be created, each with adjacent learning zones, providing ample space for the approximately 960 students currently being taught in 29 classes at the school.

District deputy Alexander Bohn emphasised that the expansion strengthens the school site in Mühlheim, highlighting the importance of this project for the local community.

The construction work on the expansion of Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium in Mühlheim is planned to be completed by the 2026/27 school year. The existing container facility will be dismantled once the new building is ready for students to move in.

Modern, environmentally friendly technology will be incorporated into the new building, including an air heat pump, central ventilation system, photovoltaic system, and external Venetian blind system.

For detailed, up-to-date information on the Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium expansion—including plans, schedules, and budgeting—it is best to consult directly with the school administration or the local municipality of Mühlheim, or review official announcements from the school district or city council websites.

What will the expansion at Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium incorporate for education-and-self-development? The new building will feature a large classroom, a support point for teaching staff, and eight new classrooms, promoting a conducive learning environment for both students and teachers.
