In today's society, the influence of gender coding is indeed a topic of significant interest. This phenomenon, which involves assigning specific traits or masculinity or femininity, can have far-reaching effects on various aspects of life, particularly in the professional world.

Gender coding can impact the way professionals view violence, with physical violence considered masculine and relational violence seen as feminine. This dichotomy extends to job performance evaluations, where communal terms are often applied more frequently to women. Interestingly, studies have shown that male-coded language is prevalent in finance internship and emergency medicine physician job advertisements, potentially discouraging applicants of certain genders.

The use of gender-neutral job titles can help to attract people of every gender to apply. However, the choice of language in job descriptions can also send subtle messages about what is acceptable for males and females. For instance, using superlatives such as 'superior' and 'expert' may discourage women from applying, while terms like 'taking charge' are viewed favorably.

Women are often praised for being helpful, but being helpful is not always highly valued in the workplace. On the contrary, men may also be discouraged from applying for jobs with feminine-coded language.

Industries and professions particularly affected by gender coding include engineering and technical sciences, the energy sector, film and television production, healthcare and welfare sectors, the public sector, consulting, banking, and hospitality. In these fields, women face stereotyping and limited advancement opportunities.

The impact of gender coding can lead to gender inequality in the labor market and professional roles. Due to this, women's chances of increased pay and higher positions have arguably been affected by gendered attitudes expressed in gender codes.

Using non-gendered language in job descriptions encourages people of all genders to apply for jobs. However, the use of communal and feminine-coded wording in job descriptions may not translate into favorable rewards in the workplace. This suggests that while gender coding can help attract a diverse pool of applicants, it may not necessarily lead to equal opportunities for all.

Occupations, positions, and work tasks are often gendered, meaning they are assumed to be more suited for particular genders. For example, boys are often described as less violent when they are involved in relational violence, while physical violence among girls is not always taken seriously.

The use of gender coding can perpetuate and reinforce traditional gender roles and stereotypes. As such, it is crucial to promote gender-neutral language and practices to create a more inclusive and equitable society. By doing so, we can break down the barriers that have long held back women and men from reaching their full potential.
