City and Schulbau GmbH Transform Realschule Herkenrath with New Building and Yard Renovation
The city and Schulbau GmbH are set to transform the Realschule Herkenrath with a new modular building and schoolyard renovation. Both projects, led by Fachbereich 8, will be realized by Schulbau GmbH and August Dohrmann GmbH, with a completion date scheduled for the school year 2026/27.
Preparatory clearing work will commence next week on the undeveloped plot south of the Realschule building. This involves felling five necessary trees, with an additional two trees potentially needing removal for preservation. Compensatory measures will be coordinated with StadtGruen for the felled trees.
The outdated schoolyard will also undergo renovation and redesign, creating an independent yet interlinked space. The new modular building is a response to increased space requirements due to the return to the nine-year educational pathway (G9). The location was carefully examined and deemed the most functional solution for implementing politically decided school construction news. The new building will significantly improve the spatial situation of the Realschule and reorganize the use of the area for the Gymnasium.
An information event will be held by the city and Schulbau GmbH to comprehensively inform interested citizens and the school community about the project. The completion of the projects is scheduled for the school year 2026/27, with August Dohrmann GmbH set to begin implementation shortly.
