Children's Reading Expedition Awards: Rewards Given for Completed Reading Journeys
In the picturesque town of Demmin, the "Ferienleselust" action, a summer reading initiative, has come to a successful close. The event, organised by the Hanse Library's support association, saw the participation of 101 children, not all of whom were members of the library.
Mayor Thomas Witkowski, in his address, emphasised the joy that reading brings, stating that there are no losers in this campaign. He also took the opportunity to thank the volunteer helpers who made the event possible.
The action, spearheaded by Dr. Angela Busch, Barbara Wuttke, Ingrid Meinke, Hella Riebes, Manuela Gross, Regina Wessel, and Robert Fingerloos, saw a significant effort put in to finalise the results. Robert Fingerloos, a teacher and member of the support association, confirmed the correctness of the children's book summaries and read only two books during the holiday time.
Of the registered children, 74 completed the task of reading at least one book during the holiday weeks. The remaining children, despite not being members of the library, also participated in the reading initiative.
As a reward for their reading efforts, a film screening of "Lilli and the Kangaroo" was announced. Moreover, Elsa Engel, Ada Holz, Lotta Pauscher, Adele Lange, and Tessa Pietsch were honoured with book vouchers for reading 16, 13, 12, 11, and 10 books respectively.
Kati Dittbrenner, expressing her joy, commended the participation of many unregistered young people in the action. It's worth noting that receiving the certificate at Demmin schools earns the first grade in German.
In total, 256 books were read during the "Ferienleselust" action. The success of the event underscores the importance of encouraging reading among young people, and the positive impact it can have on their educational journey.
