Cebu City Holds Free Job Fair and Training Event

On Labor Day, May 1, 2025, Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia announced that Cebu City would offer a spacious venue and free training for its job-seeking residents. The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 was in charge of hosting a job fair that day at Sm Seaside Cebu City to address the employment needs of over 123 labor day participants.

Mayor Garcia welcomed job-seekers aged 18 to 24, inviting them to explore job opportunities through the Youth Employability Program. On May 2, 2025, the "Jobstart Philippines" orientation was scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM at the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) Training Hall in Ramos Public Market, Barangay Cogon Ramos.

Qualified applicants would receive free life skills training, career guidance, employment coaching, and real-world company internships. They would also receive allowances during their training and internship periods. Those interested in the orientation were encouraged to bring their birth certificate or other government-issued ID, along with their diploma and transcript of records, if available.

The job fair and the Jobstart program aimed to connect job seekers with potential employers and to develop their skills. This initiative was expected to create many job opportunities within the city. The Dole 7 and Cebu City Government, along with SM Seaside, were involved in organizing the job fair.

Over 35 companies from the retail, wholesale, food, business process outsourcing, electronics, and accommodation sectors were expected to participate in the job fair, offering 3,743 job vacancies. Interestingly, out of the 70 people hired on-the-spot at three local job fairs in Cebu, Bohol, and Dumaguete, a total of 80 were successfully hired. Specifically, 17 men and 11 women were hired from the SM Seaside Cebu City job fair, while 30 men and 13 women were hired in Dumaguete City, and 33 men and 15 women were hired in Bohol.
