Cape Winemakers Guild Auction Sets Record with 48 Top-Scoring Lots
The 41st Cape Winemakers Guild Auction has made history with an impressive 48 lots scoring 95 points or higher from top critics. This prestigious event, held annually since 1985, showcases unique wines from South Africa's finest winemakers. Proceeds support the CWG Protégé Programme, fostering diversity and inclusivity in the industry.
Among the highlights are Abrie Beeslaar's inaugural Pinotage under his own label and JD Pretorius' first red wine on auction. The event also introduces several firsts, including a 100% Carignan by AA Badenhorst Family Wines and a fortified wine. Debutants Hannes Storm and John Seccombe present two wines each. The auction features 30 reds, 17 whites, and offers collectors rare verticals and unique collections.
The CWG Protégé Auction runs alongside the main event, with proceeds supporting the Protégé Programme. Three young winemakers, Anna Schwarz, Luca Meyer, and Elias Bauer, are set to participate in the next CWG Auction 2025. The 2025 event will be a hybrid, taking place both in person and online, with online bidders needing to register via Strauss & Co.
The 41st Cape Winemakers Guild Auction sets a new record with its highest-ever number of top-scoring lots. This year's auction offers collectors an unparalleled opportunity to acquire exceptional South African wines while supporting the growth of young talent in the industry.
