Leading Luminaries Convene in Global Creative Economy Council

Kelly Wilhelm, a seasoned consultant and strategist with over 25 years of experience in the cultural, media, creative industries, and the not-for-profit sector, has been appointed as the founding Head of the Cultural Policy Hub at OCAD University in Canada. Additionally, she teaches as an adjunct professor in the School of Graduate Studies there.

In her consultancy projects, Wilhelm offers strategic guidance for program and policy revitalization at various levels - local, provincial/territorial, and national. Previously, she held key positions such as Chief of Staff to the federal Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency for the Regions of Quebec, Senior Policy Advisor to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, and Director of Policy, Planning, and Strategic Foresight at the Canada Council for the Arts. She is recognized as an equity ally and champion with a record of dynamic community engagement and oversight of action-oriented, data-driven equity and inclusion strategies.

The Global Creative Economy Council (GCEC) is a global forum that brings together influential voices - entrepreneurs, researchers, cultural leaders, and policymakers - to develop a collaborative approach for sustainable growth in the cultural and creative sectors worldwide.

Key members of GCEC include:

  • Eduardo Saravia, Chief Economist at Sound Diplomacy with over 16 years of experience advising governments and international organizations like UNESCO, focuses on evaluating the economic and social impact of cultural and creative industries, with an emphasis on development, equity, and evidence-based policies.
  • John Newbigin OBE, the chair of GCEC, brings extensive experience from the film, television, and theatre industries. He played a crucial role in developing the world’s first definition and valuation of the creative industries, adopted by the UK government in 1998. Newbigin also serves as Mayor of London's Ambassador for the creative industries and is a Visiting Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London.
  • Marta Foresti, CEO of LAGO Collective and GCEC Chair, contributes expert knowledge to the council's work and participates in research and policy discussions related to the creative economy.

The GCEC aims to foster collaboration and policy innovation in the creative economy on a global scale, address issues of informality, inequality, and climate resilience within the creative sectors, promote inclusive and sustainable growth, and influence research, writing, and convening around critical challenges facing the global creative economy.
