Bitget Expands PayFi Islands to Kalibo and Negros Oriental, Boosting School and Creative Economy Internet Access

Kalibo, a city in the Philippines, is set to benefit from an expansion of the PayFi Islands project by cryptocurrency exchange Bitget. The project aims to enhance internet connectivity in schools and the creative economy sector, with full implementation slated for July 2025.

Bitget's expansion into Negros Oriental underscores the growing consensus in the Web3 space that widespread crypto adoption relies on equitable internet access. Vugar Usi Zade, COO of Bitget, stressed the project's goal to connect communities to education and the digital economy, stating, 'Access to the internet is access to opportunities'.

The digital divide in Negros Oriental, particularly in remote areas like Apo Island and urban centers like Dumaguete, has hindered education and the creative economy due to unreliable internet access. Bitget's PayFi Islands initiative aims to bridge this gap by providing high-speed Starlink internet to key community hubs, starting with Apo Elementary School and the Arts and Design Collective Dumaguete (ADCD).

The Negros Oriental expansion is part of PayFi Islands' second phase, scheduled for full deployment in July 2025. It includes hardware installation, subscription coverage, and community training programs. The initiative complements Bitget's educational advocacy programs Blockchain4Youth and Blockchain4Her, which aim to introduce blockchain literacy and financial education to underserved communities. In Dumaguete City, Bitget is partnering with the Arts and Design Collective Dumaguete to power a makerspace, offering advanced digital tools and international collaboration channels.

Bitget's expansion of the PayFi Islands project to Kalibo and Negros Oriental is expected to significantly improve internet connectivity in schools and the creative economy sector. By providing access to high-speed Starlink internet, the project aims to connect communities to education and the digital economy, fostering growth and opportunity.
