Aschaffenburg Honored for Education in Sustainable Development
Aschaffenburg, a city in Germany, has been recognized for its commitment to education for sustainable development (BNE). It was part of the nationwide network of BNE model communities from 2021 to 2025 and recently received a 'BNE model community' certificate.
The city's Volkshochschule and Verein Migranten für Migranten e.V. were honored with the 'National Award - Education for Sustainable Development'. This recognition follows the successful implementation of various BNE projects and measures during the city's involvement in the BNE model community network.
The Open Days Barcamp in June 2024 brought together stakeholders from education, politics, and civil society, demonstrating the city's commitment to sustainability and education. Mayor Jürgen Herzing praised the valuable impulses gained from the cooperation with BiNaKom, which has now ended but leaves a lasting impact on the city's sustainability efforts.
Aschaffenburg's dedication to BNE continues even after the project period. The city looks forward to building on the successes of the past and further anchoring sustainability in its educational landscape.
