Securing 2,264 Craft Apprenticeships for the New Training Year in Saxony: A Boost for Female Talent in Non-Traditional Sectors!
Over two thousands apprenticeship opportunities secured for the upcoming training period in various trade sectors. - Almost 2,200 vocational training programs lined up for the incoming academic year
Hear, hear! The skilled trades sector in Saxony is on a roll as they've nabbed 2,264 new apprenticeship contracts, that's a fantastic 6% rise compared to last year! Eager to start their vocational journeys are the swell number of young talent looking to dive into the trade world.
Leading the charge in this adventure is Frank Wetzel, from the Saxon Craftsmen's Association. He declared, "Qualified young professionals are the beating heart of our craft businesses, ensuring they stay on top and competitive in the industry!"
Guess who's rocking the scene? Gals, that's who! Women make up more than one fifth of these new apprentices, choosing professions from the unconventional side, such as hairdressers, opticians, dental technicians, hearing aid acousticians, or food retail experts.
But it's not just the dolled-up industries gaining traction. Those forging their paths in automotive mechatronics, electronics, and roofing crafts are blowing the dust off these 'traditionally male domains.' Women are increasingly interested in these sectors, says Wetzel.
There's more demand than ever for skilled talent in the automotive, food retail, and building sectors – butchers, bakers, and yes, roofers are some of the ones facing high demand. And as each year rolls by, automotive mechatronics, electronics, and HVAC systems remain the unsung heroes.
But there's a catch. The sector is struggling to fill the still vacant training positions in around 80 professions. Desperately seeking new apprentices are the various craftsmanship domains, hoping to snag as many young talents as possible – especially those graduating from school or those who've recently dropped out.
Currently, there are around 400 open trainee slots, so fierce competition is ensuing among the automotive, metal construction, carpentry, masonry, refrigeration technology, and HVAC crafts. Dresden, the magnificent city of Saxony, is at the forefront of this talent hunt.
Oh, and in case you're curious about where Saxony stands in that grand picture, they've made a notable impression with their increase in apprenticeships. Dive into Saxony's educational initiatives and watch the trades sector flourish with young talent!

Community policy in Saxony should prioritize increasing vocational training opportunities, particularly in traditionally male-dominated sectors, to encourage personal growth and learning for both men and women. Education-and-self-development initiatives, such as the availability of apprenticeships in Dresden, can facilitate a boost in personal-growth and help break stereotypes in non-traditional sectors like automotive mechatronics, electronics, and roofing crafts.
