19 pupils disciplined, 2 dismissed from CVASU due to ragging misconducts

In a significant move to maintain discipline and ensure student safety, the Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) has taken disciplinary actions against 19 students for their involvement in ragging incidents. The decisions were made following the 13th meeting of the Student Discipline Committee, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, on June 29, 2025 [1].

The committee reviewed several cases of ragging, including serious incidents that occurred on August 1 and November 19, 2023, at the university's Birampur campus [2]. Two students had their studentship permanently revoked due to their involvement in physically and mentally harassing junior students. Second-year student Mirza Mahfuz Hasan Akash was permanently expelled from the dormitory and fined Tk10,000, while another student, Md Jaber, was expelled from the hall for one year and fined Tk5,000 [1].

The committee's decisive actions demonstrate CVASU's commitment to addressing ragging and curbing physical and mental abuse among students. The disciplinary measures imposed include temporary and permanent expulsion from university dormitories and fines.

Here is a breakdown of the disciplinary actions:

| Disciplinary Action | Number of Students | Details | |----------------------------------------|--------------------|------------------------------------------| | Temporary and permanent dormitory expulsion | 19 | Fines and hall expulsions imposed | | Permanent revocation of studentship | 2 | For severe physical and mental harassment |

Other students who faced disciplinary actions include Md Rashid Shabab Shuvo, Tanzim Md Siam Iqbal, and Md Mehedi Hasan, who were each suspended from the hall for six months and fined Tk3,000. Md Touhidul Islam Shihab was permanently expelled from the university hall and fined Tk10,000 for his role in the incident.

Two post-graduate students, Abhishek Nandi (Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology) and Md Ashikul Islam Rana (Animal Science and Nutrition), were expelled from the university entirely and had their studentships revoked following separate incidents. Md Royazul Jannah Wasi was permanently banned from entering the university hall.

The committee, during its 11th meeting on March 18, 2025, found Abhishek Nandi and Md Ashikul Islam Rana guilty of misconduct [1]. One student was physically assaulted in Room 418 of the Bir Muktijoddha Abdullah Al Noman Hall on August 1, 2023.

Khalilur Rahman, senior deputy director of the university's Public Relations and Publications Department, confirmed the matter through a press release [1]. The latest news on disciplinary actions against students for ragging at CVASU underscores the university's stringent response to maintain student safety and discipline on campus [1][2].
